India vs Australia, WTC 2023 Final Day 3 Highlights: Australia slightly ahead of India, lead by 296 runs at Stumps

Australia ended Day 3 of the ongoing World Test Championship final against India with a lead of 296 runs, as they reached 123 for 4. Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green will resume their innings on Saturday, with Labuschagne on 41 and Green on 7. In India’s first innings, they managed to score 296 runs, thanks to a resilient knock of 89 by Ajinkya Rahane. However, Australia had gained a substantial first innings lead of 173 runs after posting a total of 469 runs, despite the impressive performance of Mohammed Siraj, who took four wickets.

During Australia’s second innings, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami made early breakthroughs by dismissing David Warner. Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja managed to survive the intense bowling attack until tea, with Australia ending the session at 23 for 1. However, Khawaja was dismissed soon after the break, and Steve Smith joined Labuschagne in the middle. The duo built a partnership of 62 runs for the third wicket before Smith’s dismissal, which came as a result of an attempt to hit a big shot against Ravindra Jadeja. Travis Head also fell quickly, without contributing many runs, again falling victim to Jadeja’s bowling.

At the end of Day 3, Australia’s score stood at 123 for 4, with Labuschagne and Green at the crease. Despite the challenge of scoring runs, they remained firmly in control of the match, holding a significant lead of 296 runs. Labuschagne was unbeaten on 41, while Green was not out on 7. The game will resume on Saturday, and India will be eager to make further breakthroughs in order to limit Australia’s lead and mount a comeback in the final.
